Cluff has served on the board  for the past four years, with the past two years as deputy supervisor. He said he believes Mendon is at a crossroads, with development increasing and the need for additional services.

He said growth in the town should be guided by  fiscal responsibility and proper planning by sticking to the guidelines of the town's comprehensive plan to maintain the town's rural character.

Cluff, 59, who has worked on the comprehensive plan update, the hamlet master plan and the library plan, says it is important to put issues that will affect resident taxes to a public referendum.

He said he believes in consensus building and open government. "It is our responsibility to debate and listen to both sides of the issue and vote on what residents want," he said.

He also said he would like to see a

collaborative effort to develop a combined Office of Economic Development with the village of Honeoye Falls.

A retired professional financial manager, Cluff is a CPA who has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of CPAs. He and his wife, Arlene, have lived in Mendon 24 years

Roy Cluff seeks re-election to Mendon Board

June 2, 2005

"I am seeking re-election to theMendon Town Board position in November 2005," says Roy Cluff.

Mr. Cluff was first elected to the board in the 2001 election. He is convinced that Mendon residents want decisions made by community input, and not by one or two members of the board or by a committee vote. He also notes that Mendon with the developers knocking on its doors, must be vigilant about growth in order to provide the additional services that will be required with development.

The Comprehensive Plan, the new library and sewers for the Hamlet, all projects that are as yet unfinished, are projects Mr. Cluff hopes to see to completion. Each project that has been studied over the last few years has to be, handled keeping in mind the residents' well known desire for maintaining the rural character of the township. Many decisions must be made to protect the property values of Mendon homeowners, since homes are probably one of the largest investments most people make.

Mr. Cluff says he has many ideas for future programs, such as joining with Honeoye Falls to form an office of economic development to help fill vacant buildings and attract future business.

"My work on the board has been rewarding. I brought to the job knowledge of finance through my profession of financial manager of CPA for a large Rochester company. I ask for your support and for the opportunity to continue as town councilman for another term,” he says.
