Attn: Ms. Barbara Murphy

Dear Ms. Murphy:

It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I write to you in support of the Town of Mendon's application for a Quality Community Grant. The Town of Mendon, the Town and Village of Lima have jointly applied for funding to cover a portion of the cost of preparing development regulations to implement recently completed comprehensive plans in Mendon and Lima.

The Town of Mendon, located in the heart of my Senate district, has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to maintain and maximize its rural and historic character, all while serving the diverse needs of its residents, retailers and businesses. The Mendon and Lima Comprehensive Plans emphasize support for the agricultural industry and protection of sensitive environmental, historic, scenic and recreational resources. The comprehensive plans recommend that zoning regulations be updated to provide additional protection to these resources. Funding through the Quality Communities Grant Program would enable the three communities to prepare these development regulations.

The development regulations produced during the project will serve as models for towns throughout New York State concerned with such issues as protecting farmland, natural resources, open space and rural character. On behalf of the Town ofMendon, I respectfully request that you give this application for the Quality Community Grant your priority consideration.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely

JAMES S. ALESI
New York State Senator
